Static Cloud Hosting Control Panel

March 2013

Built on Cloud Foundry and Cloud Stack technologies, the Static cloud hosting platform is a very robust tool that allows you spin up virtual machines and website environments on the fly. Coupled with domain registration and email systems, the platform offered a one-stop-shop for any web hosting need.

Because of the number of tasks that a user would need to be able to accomplish, it was imperative that the user interface be as straight forward as possible to alleviate confusion, while still offering all of the available functionality. To accomplish this, I architected an interface that broke the functionality into more digestable portions: Site Management, Domain Management, Email Management, Server Management and Account Management.

Each section of the interface has tools related to that task, however in some cases where there was a functionality overlap, the user has the ability to accomplish the same goal from any related section. For example when creating or managing a site, the user may need to bind it to a new or existing service. This can be accomplished from both the service interface or the site interface.

The key to the interface was creating a consistent visual and functional language. This was maintained by defining navigational elements and heirarchy consistenetly, as well as keeping elements such as the shopping cart, data tables, etc the same throughout the interface.
